Dermapen

We’re proud to introduce the latest method of improving facial, physical appearance without receiving full-on plastic surgery. The revolutionary Dermapen, which happens to be one of the best options to treat wrinkles, scars, acne scars, stretch-marks and others skin conditions has arrived at Vitality Spa.

How does it work?

This technology allows the practitioner to repeatedly pierce the skin with 11, 33-gauge – smaller than most lancets used to check blood sugar levels in diabetics – micro needles. Don’t worry; they only go from 0.5 to 2.5 mm into the skin at a maximum. The depth of the treated condition determines the appropriate puncture depth.

Based on body tissue’s natural ability to release growth factors and heal, the small punctures result in diminished appearance of skin problems and a drastic improvement to the health and natural state of the skin. The tiny puncture wounds result in the body’s recognition of an injury. The associated bleeding and platelet release in the tissue becomes a cascading process to rejuvenate the skin.

While healing the outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis, grows. Fibroblasts, which produce the precursor to collagen, move to surround the injured area and undergo mitosis, or cell-replication. Furthermore, they build a new framework, known as the matrix, outside of the cells that gives structure to skin. We all possess this structure naturally; however, injuries and age weaken it. Next, the tissue begins to grow and repair itself rapidly due to the following:

  • Glycosaminoglycan’s (GAGs) – These molecules keep the matrix hydrated.
  • Proteoglycans – These are large proteins that facilitate molecule transport through the extracellular matrix in addition to providing some building components needed in the matrix.
  • Elastin – This protein allows tissues to stretch and retain their new shape.
  • Angiogenesis – This is the process in which vessels grow to give the skin a new, strong source of nourishment.
  • Collagen I, III, & IV – Collagen III & IV develops into Collagen I which tightens the skin and tissues around the matrix.
  • Consultation
  • Your first visit to learn about this procedure is called the consultation. You will be able to ask questions about how the procedure works and what kind of results you can expect. You will need to inform the practitioner of your medical and physical history. Be sure to include any type of allergies you have.
  • It would beneficial for you to stop smoking and drinking, if you do either of these, for the day of your procedure. This reduces the chances of excessive bleeding or injury to your tissues. Furthermore, don’t wear any makeup, creams, or lotions on your face to the procedure.

Recovery

You will experience some redness at the treatment site. It may be more severe depending on the amount of treatment received. The tissue will begin to swell over the next two days. Your practitioner may prescribe skin ointments and creams to enhance and promote healing on the site.

Within three hours of finishing your procedure, wash you face gently with lukewarm water. Don’t over massage the treatment area. When you’re finished, apply the medications or serums given to you by the practitioner. You will notice drier, tighter skin for the first few days following your procedure. This is normal, but the serums will help to alleviate it.

You can begin wearing mineral makeup the day after treatment. After several days you can return to previous skin care regimens if they don’t contain alcohol based toners. Try to avoid being in direct sunlight for a minimum of 10 days. If you must go outside in the days following treatment, use the physician approved sunblock the days after your procedure. Please don’t apply it the day of your procedure. You should always wash your hands before touching your face; however, this is vital following this procedure. Unclean hands bring harmful bacteria, fungi, or viruses into contact with the tiny puncture sites into your skin.
